Drumsound Events were a fantastic addition to Imbawula Music Festival. They provided engaging drumming entertainment as guests arrived, creating an immediate buzz. The Department of Geography, Environmental management and Energy Studies from the University of Johannesburg took part in a two-day spectacular team building experience.
Craig and his team from Drumsound Events were superbly professional in building bonds of friendship. Staring off with a great selection of ice breakers, dancing and mirroring activities the team started the day full of laughs.
The laughter flourished as we moved onto the unity games. Lots of trust and effective communication were critical with team members being blindfolded, climbing through hula hoops and hip thrusting a ball across the finish line with your HoD!
Team croquette was really interesting, to have to take turns putting the ball around the course meant using your own turn to line up shots for your team to guarantee a group victory. Volley ball was a great strength for some members of the team and a deeply terrifying game for others. It was amazing to see how the people bunched together to get the ball over the net. The grid game brought out the most competitive side of us but was great fun.
The next day we had a wonderful time with the archery set up, it was super special to watch colleagues help each other get that perfect shot. Holding and fetching arrows for each other and showing loads of support cheering for each other was awesome.
I feel like the most important moment for the team becoming synchronised was the drumming circle.
The repetitive and sometimes tricky patterns of playing took concentration but turned out even better when everyone relaxed and just enjoyed making music together. The literal harmony translated super easily into a figurative harmony that we have all carried home in our hearts that is still evident back on our campus.
No one was left out of any of the activities and gentle nudges were given by the team building leadership when needed. It was an excellently managed experience.
Thank you so much to the Imbabali team and Drumsound Events team for all their work, the endless laughs, the spectacular photos and above all the memories made. Our department is absolutely stronger and more aligned having shared this experience.
